FREE EVENT | Embrace Your Belly: Bellydance Class

FREE EVENT | Join in a fun, sensual, educational, body-positive Introduction to Egyptian Bellydance taught by Nyota Nayo on Friday February 23, 2018 at 8pm for a ONE hour class with complimentary wine. 

We will align and get in touch this ancient womb dance as we learn basic body technique, footwork, posture, traveling steps, veilwork and more in this women centered dance also known as Raqs Sharqui.

As we explore the various basic aspects of this North African Dance, we will be able to do a short choreogaphy from the movements learned during the class - we will also have time for questions and answers in a loving, supportive sister centered environment. 

Dress comfortably with loose skirts/pants and tops - veils will be provided and some hip belts. Please wear what ever you feel comfortable in. Socks are optional.

Bellydance Instructor, Nyota Nayo

Nyota Nayo is the Director of Women's Wellness at Sweet Water Dance and Yoga Studio where she teaches Egyptian Bellydance, Brazilian Samba and various styles of Yoga Classes for all ages.  

She also teaches at Harlem Yoga Studio, Yoga In Bayridge, Ridgewood Yoga Studio, Finer Studio and at various women's shelters, senior centers, LGBT communities and in underserved communities promoting acceptance and healing through movement.

 She has trained in various styles of Dance from childhood, touring and performing in Haflas,Theatres, Nightclubs, private parties and numerous venues and has taught and performed throughout the US and Internationally with Nubian Moon Daughters Dance Company and Nego Gato Afro Brazilian Dance Company and numerous other troupes, companies and ensembles performing Bellydance and Brazilian Samba and Orisha Dances.

She believes dance is for everyone of all ages, shapes, sizes, sexes and cultures and promotes a community of dance where everyone has a fun, educational, sensual and healing experience.
